After some nice R&R, I’m back :)
I had a few medical and financial problems to plow through but I’m ready for July and the great events I will take part in. First stop GCDS! I will be talking about KDE Mexico and how we could relate the work we are doing to other Latin countries and I will do a few smaller conferences around northern Mexico! So expect lots of pictures and posts. :D

CONSOL 2009 was great, I met up with the Monterrey KDE Mexico team and we spread the KDE love at the event; As always I encouraged all the people there to try out KDE, specially KDE 4.2.2 and to send in their comments and suggestions. I was happy to see many people notice how stable KDE 4.2.2 is and how well it runs on a lappy running FreeBSD that is also compiling in the background and with DRI disabled on X.org. We started distributing schwag, got PC-BSD and Kubuntu disks in the hands of almost everybody in the room ( we ran out ). By the end we had a room full of happy people and we got two new KDE Mexico members. \o/ yeey

During a short lunch break I started talking with the ENLi organizers over submitting Puebla as a location for next years Camp KDE.

I want to thank both PC-BSD, Kubuntu and Larry Cafiero ( FSF ) for sending us the great schwag we gave out at the event.

I want to inform everybody that I will be attending CONSOL 2009 next week for two days ( Thursday and Friday ), I will be giving away some KDE Schwag with a few other KDE Mexico members, so be sure to come and say: “Howdy!”.

As many of you know, I have been contacting different KDE supporting distributions and operating systems that might want to get their product out there and in turn help us get KDE into the hands of the Mexican people.

Howdy Everybody,

As some of you know ( thanks to my live feeds ) I decided to go help out the KDE USA team at SCALE 7x, SCALE is an Open Source Community conference located in Los Angeles, CA USA. I got to mingle with great people from many projects and companies including Debian, PC-BSD, GNOME, Ubuntu, Haiku, IBM, SUN, Open-BSD, Fedora and many others.

On Saturday I arrived with one of my KDE Mexico members ( ‘Lu’ a recent KDE convert ) to help out with the Spanish speaking audience, I was happy to see that we had a pimped out booth setup: Two great looking LCD monitors sponsored by Qt Software, Ian took two wicked fast thin-clients ( I hope you will send me one for my birthday next week ), Aaron took his posters from last years event and we had more swag than expected, since we decided to go in uniform; blue KDE shirt + black pants. We where told our booth looked way professional. :-D

By 9:30 AM we got swamped by a lot of people interested in KDE and the floor hadn’t even opened yet :-D, the internet connection seemed to be a bit off so my live streams where cutting out ( sorry >.<" ).

Later that day I went to stream the KDE talk by Aaron and tried to help him out with a few jokes during the presentation, I notices a few people chatting away about the talk in IRC loving the presentation. I got to meet a CPP + GL developer interested in joining KDE after the presentation ( \o/ YEEY ).

By the end of the first day I had feet the size of California, we met up with Dilip from Nokia ( Trolltech ) who we talked earlier in the day with. He invited us all out to dinner at a local restaurant and we got to talk about some interesting subjects.

On Sunday things cooled down, I got to make some new friends after dishing out some COCAINE Ian and Dilip A.K.A. Aaron scored on Sunday night ( the Drink - not the Drug lol ).

I would like to thank the e.V. and everybody else who helped us get out there and get KDE in the hands of the public. :-D *hugs* to you all.

Howdy Everybody,

I finally got a chance to settled in and back to work after a nice trip to Jamaica, this past week has been rather stress-full since I have had a few problems at work. So I did what any Gentoo loving person does in such situations, go crazy and reinstall everything \o/ yeey.

I decided to try out Ext4 since it got such great reviews, I backed up all my stuff and proceeded to format my system using Ext4, sadly no Gentoo install media can currently format Ext4 ( yet! ) I think Ext4dev was available but installing my system using the development version felt to risky and dirty to me.

The great thing about Gentoo is that it is quite easy to install using any other distro but I decided to build my own EXT4 capable Gentoo installer on a spare 6 GB thumb drive.

My first try at installing Gentoo + Ext4 was plagued with lockups, I sadly and wrongfully blamed Ext4 and was thinking about changing back to Ext3, after searching for a bit I found out that the newer version of X.Org I had been using was causing the lockups and not Ext4, but after so many lockups I started getting the feeling that the system was not as clean ( yes I have a problem ) as I’d like it to be so I then decided on also giving GCC 4.3.3 a try ( -march=core2 drool :o ), that ended up in another reinstall from Stage 1.

I have found both great, a few programs don’t quite make the GCC 4.3.3 cut ( damn you VirtualBox ) but it has been a great learning experience and the speed thanks to Ext4 feels soooo goood. :-)
