“Laconica - The Open Microblogging Tool”
A friend of mine just told me about this project, all free and open. You can setup your own Twitter clone on your own server with working sms and jabber service. This is a great alternative for some FLOSS projects that use “MicroBlogging” as a way to communicate ( *nudge* Aaron ;-) ).
It seems to use the a Twitter like API so I ported some Twitter scripts I made to work with Identi.ca and Laconica compatible sites.

I know about this, it’s fine but doesn’t have SMS, check their faq.

We use an SMS-to-email gateway for delivery to mobile. We cover most of the major carriers. There’s an “SMS” tab on the settings menu, give it a try.
