Just confirmed today, I will be going on a business trip to the south
on Monday, I decided to take a couple of books to read during my stay.
Just for Fun - The Story of an Accidental Revolutionary
by Linus Torvalds and David Diamond.
The Mythical Man-Month - Essays on Software Engineering
by Frederick P. Brooks, JR.
I usually don’t get to read them on business trips but I will make time
and read them before my triumphant return in one weeks time.
Does anybody have any suggestions on a good science fiction book to take?
EDIT: Thank’s `Serge` for the head up on the misplaced `r` in `Torvalds`, yes even I. The fastest typist in the west sometimes makes mistakes :-)

1. “Snow Crash” by Neal Stephenson (also “Cryptonomicon”, but not as good, imo)
2. “Altered Carbon” by Richard Morgan (stay away from his second book)
3. “The Player of Games” by Iain M Banks
4. “Revelation Space” by Alastair Reynolds
Didn’t realise “The Mythical Man-Month” is still in print. Happy reading & travelling!

Anything by Peter F. Hamilton I guess :-)

William Gibson is always nice :-).
Neuromancer, Mona lisa overdrive, Burning chrome and Pattern recognition (not _really_ science fiction, in the classical sense anyway) are all recommended. (Getting count zero soon).

Altered Carbon is a very good book, I’v read it myself.
Linus’ Biography is also a good read.
The Mythical Man-Month… I once started reading it, and to me it read like a book on avoiding the typical errors when building a pyramid. If you are a FLOSS developer you are probably going to think “How could anybody not know that?” about many of the insights presented. I’ll be very interested to hear your opinion after you have read the *whole* book :)

surely cryptonomicon from Neal Stephanson, which is more likely to be in cyberpunk category, and its partly about history (features turring and linux in it) or diamond age from the same author, more likely to be in sci-fi gendre.

You spelled Linus Torvalds wrong.

Yep sorry about that, it was late and I have large fast chubby fingers.
It has been corrected now at the cost of a few newsreaders going nuts. A
small price to pay :-), I thank you.

Thank you all for your great suggestions, I will be sure to comment as I go
about reading them, I will be sure to visit a bookstore before I leave :-D

You should check out Asimov’s “The End of Eternity” if you haven’t already.
